Nebraska Probate Form 343 - Estate Accounting Sheet

WHEN TO USE THE FORM: Many offices do not manage the estate checking and savings accounts for Personal Representatives and later have problems balancing the account for purposes of the final report. This form is a simplified "check stub" that can be used for both an estate checking and estate savings account. If you desire to use the form, it should be given to the Personal Representative at the time they are creating the estate checking and savings account.

HOW TO USE THE FORM: When the forms are given to the Personal Representative, specific directions need to be given as well:

  1. All items that are to be deposited should be deposited into the estate checking account and not into the estate savings account. This allows all receipts and disbursements for the estate to flow from the estate checking account with the savings account merely serving as a depository of excess funds. If excess moneys exist in the checking account, a check should be written to the estate savings account and, conversely, if funds are needed, a withdrawal from the savings account to the estate checking account can be made.
  2. Each time a deposit is made, a full description of the item should be placed on the Estate Accounting Sheet. If, for instance, a passbook savings account owned by the Decedent was closed out, the description should include the account number that was closed, the balance on hand on the date of death and interest that accumulated since the date of death. All of this information will be necessary at a later point in the estate.
  3. You should emphasize to the Personal Representative that the Personal Representative should balance the Estate Accounting Sheet each month when the bank statement is received and that if unable to do so, the Personal Representative should bring the forms and the bank statement to your office so that appropriate adjustments can be made.

WHEN NOT TO USE THE FORM: Many offices manage the accounts of the Personal Representative themselves and other offices may have a more formal accounting system for the Personal Representative. If this is the case, the Estate Accounting Sheet would not be appropriate.
